NM1 is a virtual power plant (VPP) that aggregates ordinary households' electric heating
elements, heat pumps and home batteries and sells their flexibility as FCR-D to Energinet, the
Danish TSO. We grew out of Bodil Energi's BEAM project and have been live since June 2025. NM1 is part of North Media A/S.
The story
NM1 began as a project inside Bodil Energi: could household heating devices join the
grid's frequency market and become an active part of the balance? The answer was yes. In June 2025 the virtual power plant went live, and it has been bidding into Energinet's daily FCR-D
auctions ever since — one auction for every hour of the day.
Since then the portfolio has grown steadily, and today we are one of the only aggregators
running heating devices at scale — most only run batteries. You can find the technical details on
