Frequently asked questions

These are the questions we hear most often — with honest answers. If yours is missing, write to us via Get started.

Does it affect my comfort or my equipment?

No, that is not the intention. Activations are short — typically seconds to minutes — and designed to affect neither your comfort nor your equipment. Your hot water keeps its temperature, and your heat pump keeps running as normal.

When and how do I get paid?

Earnings are shared between you and NM1 and paid out quarterly as an ordinary bank transfer from NM1. Behind the scenes, settlement happens through eSett, the shared Nordic settlement operator for the power market. What your device can earn is shown under calculate your earnings.

What happens if my wifi drops out?

Your device works completely as normal — it heats or charges just like it always does. It simply does not take part in the market while the connection is down. Once the wifi is back, it takes part again.

What happens if I move house?

Contact us before you move, and together we will find the right solution for your device and your agreement.

Do I pay tax on the earnings?

We cannot advise on your personal tax situation. If you are unsure how the income should be treated in your case, ask the Danish Tax Agency (Skattestyrelsen) or an adviser.

What is FCR-D?

FCR-D is a frequency reserve that Energinet buys to keep the power grid stable at 50 Hz. When the frequency deviates, enrolled devices react automatically with short activations. Read the full explanation in our guide to ancillary services.

Which devices can take part?

Electric radiators and fan heaters you don't use (Plug), Metro Therm hot water tanks (HeatSync) and larger installations from 10 kW (Balance). If you already own a Shelly or a home battery with a supported inverter, it can be connected too — see the integrations. Plug and HeatSync only cover East Denmark (DK2) for now. See all three products on the products page.

What does it cost?

Plug costs DKK 299 incl. VAT and shipping and is sold in the webshop under our terms of trade. HeatSync (fitted by a licensed electrician) and Balance (a free earnings assessment of your installation) are coming soon and cannot be bought yet.

Is there a lock-in period, and how do I cancel?

There is no lock-in. If you cancel the agreement, your device keeps working as normal — it just no longer takes part in the market. You sign up via Get started.
